Hey BARS Family,
The Ali Forney Center presents the WE ARE FAMILY DANCE-A-THON, an immersive fundraising experience that celebrates New York City, a place where the LGBTQ+ Community has always led and organized in such a way that they have changed the landscape of human rights history for the world to see.
November 20th is Trans Day of Remembrance. We are using the day to feature trans voices, activists, stories, and peer organizations in addition to raising critical funds to ensure that our LGBTQ+ youth experiencing housing insecurity are fed year round.
So, are you ready to dance with us all day to feed the amazing youth of the Ali Forney Center every day? It’ll be a day you will never forget. Join us for the 2022 WE ARE FAMILY DANCE-A-THON!
When: Sunday, November 20th
Time: 12pm to 6pm
Where: The Knockdown Center, 52-19 Flushing Ave, Queens, NY 11378
Ways for BARS Players to Participate:
Dancer: Participate on Sunday, November 20th, dance, be present, enjoy the day! Dancers are fundraising from family and friends. Incentives are available at many levels, $100 - entry to the event, $1,000 unlocks merch, $2,500+ unlocks experiences, etc.
Family Crew: Volunteer for 4 hours: morning, afternoon, and early evening shifts are available. Volunteers are fundraising from family and friends. Similar incentives such as merch and t-shirts are unlocked at various levels. Note: when registering for family crew, please register as a Dancer in step 2, and then select Family Crew in the step 4 drop down.
Virtual: Best effort fundraisers and access to the dance-a-thon virtually.
The event will also commemorate The Ali Forney Center’s namesake – a gender non-binary peer counselor of and advocate for homeless LGBTQ+ youth who was killed on the streets of New York City – while also supporting a new generation; just in time for the Holidays.
